What is Prayer?

What is prayer?

Imagine you are on a long road rail or sea journey with an affectionate, concerned parent/grandparent, friend or lover or sharing an intimate meal and the chore of the washing up afterwards, what would you talk about? Your hopes and dreams realised or shattered? The climate change or Covid crises and how it affects you and those around you? How you’re getting on with the new job/baby/kitten/car? Contrast that with the phone call to say you’ve just written off the car, or the dog’s been run over or the test results are back and it’s not good news! On a Sunday, in worship, we give you a brief opportunity to talk about such things with God in our prayers or suggest topics and help build the relationship with God to ease the conversation you have with him while doing the dishes, mowing the lawn or lying in bed at night fretting and unable to sleep. There are “Wow that’s beautiful!” and “Please, I need Help!” moments in prayer as well as times of tranquil, companionable silence.

We all have times of gladness and times of sadness that need marking or just acknowledging. We are here to listen and share your pain and/or pleasure. That’s what we mean when we say we offer prayer.

Please fill in the form to tell us what is on your heart if you would like us to.pray for/with you.
